Inspiring Movie: Soul Surfer

  Soul Surfer

An awesome movie that I watched recently about the true story of Bethany Hamilton whom survived after a shark bitten off one arm of hers and how her come back story is such an inspiration for many.

I am simply awed by her courage and set waves of thoughts after watching it.

I managed to find a trailer to it on youtube, but certainly do watch the entire movie, I would highly recommend you to do that =)

These Eyes of “Blue” Sergeant Brad Hafner © 1997

I read about this and I am extremely touched by what it has been written. I chanced upon it when I was visiting the Police Museum in Brisbane, if you are heading to Brisbane I would recommend you to visit the museum too, it has been a great learning experience. And if I recall correctly, every last Sunday they will discuss a case from the file, it’s an interesting experience in deed.

These Eyes of ‘Blue’

These eys have seen the trauma

of a family torn by strife.

These eyes have seen the carnage

when one takes another’s life.

These eyes have seen the tears

of a lost and lonely child.

These eyes have seen the hate and spite

of a mob gone mad and wild.

These eyes have seen the joy

when a loved one lost, is found,

And have seen the victim’s gratitude

when the villian’s run to ground.

These eyes have read the public scorn

of police who went astray,

And have witnessed the distrust that bred

and how the rest were made to pay.

These eyes have seen the friendships forged

by work mates over time,

And have seen the support and trust they gave

as we together fought the crime.

These eyes have seen the pride

of new recruits sworn in,

And with family, proud, around them

as their life’s career begins.

But these eyes have shed a heart felt tear

when a comrade’s life’s cut short.

And have seen their families lost and crushed

when they learn of that report.

These eyes have seen his broken child

standing silent by his grave,

And have seen his family struggle on

proud of service that he gave.

God’s eyes on those police who fell

and on those they’ve left to stay,

So we gather here to honour them

On Police Remembrance Day.

Fun Tips From My Cousin

My cousin is a genius in the game called Mahjong, he claims he has known the game since the age of 4! Nonetheless he is a fine young man, very studious preparing for his primary school leaving examinations =)

Coming back, this is his tips for Mahjong or I recall aptly, a mahjong tutorial session with prof cousin! I hope you learned something too like it certainly did to a beginner recreational player like me!

According to him…

Mahjong is 60% skill, 40% luck.

Enough said, this is his tips…
>> How you play depends on your first 14 cards
>> If you are not sure, discard the corner cards, meaning the 1s and the 9s
>> Discard North, South, East, West tiles if they do not belong to you

So this is a step-by-step guide…

#Step 1: Choose type of play
#Step 2: If you are the banker, first discard the odd tile out (but not the power tiles yet)
#Step 3: Look and observe what your opponents are playing
#Step 4: Discard tiles that opponents do not want

If you get stuck, discard only 1 power tile.

If you are really stuck….COPYCAT! discard tiles that your opponents are ditching!

That’s it for now, hope you enjoy this post as much as I enjoy documenting this and certainly the LIVE session is much better, in many ways this little cousin of mine, is my Shifu (master) in Mahjong!

That person begins to get that you want them to win. That person begins to realize that you have their best interests in mind. And so they begin to give you their very best.”
